Baby’s Touch

The glassy walls reflected many a joyful guest, each in attendance for the presentation of their future ruler. She was only a tiny thing, barely a few days old, but she was lovely, large eyes sparkling as she looked out at the crowd, cooing and reaching out to touch them individually. Most of the attendees kept their distance so as to not surround the baby princess, and the senshi, too, tried to make their presence unseen. While Venus and Jupiter wandered a little closer to get a better view, the majority of them remained at their posts, watching from a distance with satisfied smiles.

All except Pluto, who chose to seclude herself in the shadows with Saturn, as both were considered the most dangerous of the senshi, and not necessarily wanted in the presence of such light. Pluto, unlike Saturn, had faced several centuries of complete silence and solitude while doing her duty, and though Saturn’s power made her feared and at times unwanted, she did have the privilege of being with others. So Pluto, feeling only comfortable hiding in the shadows of the main hall, away from the crowd, looked on carefully at the infant in the arms of her queen, memorizing her every feature all the while.

Queen Serenity’s eyes then scanned the darkness for her trusted guardian, and after spotting her, she motioned for her to come closer to see the baby. Though she was nervous about making such a grand appearance before the royal family’s mass of guests, Pluto complied and walked out of her hiding place and up the steps to kneel before her queen.

“My Lady…” she spoke softly, head bowed in respect for her Highness.

The queen smiled gently upon her Guardian of Time and spoke, “Rise, Pluto, and look at the baby to whom you have already dedicated your life. Isn’t she much more beautiful up close than she is from in the darkness?”

Pluto could only nod, looking upon the face of this tiny angel born in a world of crystal and beauty, a perfect replica of her mother from the start. The baby cooed when she saw Pluto’s dark, yet warm eyes, reaching up to touch the long strands of hair that fell over the Time Guardian’s shoulders.

Chuckling, Serenity looked to Pluto again and said, “I think she wants you to hold her, Pluto. Don’t worry, she won’t break.”

Before she could protest, the baby girl was already in her dependable arms, little hands waving back and forth in joy for the change of location. Her miniature fingers clasped onto one long finger that had been extended out to her, holding it tight in assurance to Pluto that she was indeed loved a great deal already. This pleased Pluto instantly and she held the little one a bit closer to her chest, cherishing this warm, satisfying feeling of holding an infant in her arms, rather than just her rod. It was so much softer, with responses of both happiness and discomfort, unlike the unending solitude of nothing being her companion all this time. Baby Usagi’s tenderness made her long for this feeling which she hoped to claim one day in the future.

Picking up on the signs in the Time Guardian’s expression, Serenity spoke, “One day you will have a beautiful baby just like her, and no matter what, I’m sure they’ll be as strong as you.”

Pluto looked back at her queen gratefully, tears of overwhelming delight glittering in her dark orbs, and when she heard the soft cries of the baby again, she mustered words and replied, “Thank you, my queen. I do hope that day comes soon.”

Serenity’s smile reflected the cheerful exuberance she once showed in her previous form, unbound youthfulness escaping from her cheeks and appearing as a warm pink on her face. As she stroked her smooth fingers over her daughter’s forehead, she whispered a prayer quietly for her beloved, yet silent guardian, so that she could indeed one day have such an exquisite child to call her own.

Spread more of the Sailor Pluto love, darn it!
